Patch 1.1.1, released October 16, 2026, is the latest official update checked October 19. Install it for the newly named crash fixes. Escape and combat changes still come from 1.1.0. Tower Farm and the Eugene/Michelle DLC are scheduled for October 27; their map landmarks and unique traits have now been announced.
Patch 1.1.1: match your crash to the fix
The official Steam announcement covers Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. Its specific cases help you choose the next check:
| When it crashes | Newly named fix | What to try next |
|---|---|---|
| Resuming a suspended Xbox session | Quick Resume on Series X|S | Update, quit the game fully, and start a fresh session |
| Playing in Xbox Series X Performance Mode | A shader-related crash | Retry that mode after updating; record the mode if it recurs |
| Grabbing a target | A grab-related crash | Note who grabbed whom and the interaction just before it |
| Using PC frame generation | DLSS/FSR frame-generation crashes | Update first; if it repeats, compare the same scene with frame generation off |
The last column is our troubleshooting sequence. Frame generation is separate from upscaling: you can isolate the former without changing every graphics setting. See PC and console crash checks. The announcement also lists other interaction and crash fixes without naming every trigger.
What still comes from Patch 1.1.0?
1.1.1 lists crash fixes, so keep the following October 6 gameplay changes in your match plan.
Use this table to turn the full 1.1.0 notes into the next action relevant to your session.
| You are trying to… | What changed | Where to go next |
|---|---|---|
| Escape through a cellar or gate | Lower capacity; cellars need more work, and escape-item distribution changes | Choose a route and assign the missing item |
| Survive a close-range fight | Pocket Knife counters stun Michael for less time; repeated shoves meet resistance | Use the opening to retreat or protect a teammate |
| Play Michael | Bloodthirst gains and thresholds change; low-level Shape Jump changes and Shape Dash gets faster | Build pressure around an active objective |
| Call police or return as a Cop | CB Radio timing scales with match time; Cop respawns can interact with Residents | Find an exit or radio |
| Finish a challenge or trophy | Passive lock display, some Progressive tracking, and Purely and Simply Evil tracking receive fixes | Check progression or trophy conditions |
| Reduce PC trouble | Shader precompilation, DLSS-G support, upscaling improvements, and named crash fixes | Follow PC performance and file checks |
Story Challenges also show a failure notification. For a chapter-specific objective, use the Story challenge solutions and restart the attempt once its failure is confirmed.
October 27: what is coming next?
The October 5 announcement schedules Tower Farm, Halloween 5 and Halloween (2018) Michael skins, Michelle and Eugene, and Costume Pack 1. Two later previews add useful detail:
- October 13: Tower Farm identifies farmhouses, barns, irrigation structures, and a neighboring trailer park with a laundromat and convenience store.
- October 15: Eugene and Michelle confirms Lurker's bush-based stamina/Stalk recovery and Therapeutic's nearby healing benefit. Use the character comparison to understand the conditions each trait needs.
Open the October 2026 update guide for the free/paid comparison, announced USD prices, total DLC budget, and Tower Farm preparation.
Which fixes are confirmed?
Purely and Simply Evil trophy tracking is explicitly fixed in 1.1.0. Pumpkin Smasher and Heavy Handed were named in the September 17 status post, but are not individually named as fixed by 1.1.0. Use known issues to match your problem to a dated status.
A broad challenge improvement can help an attempt without proving every counter is fixed. Check your exact condition and result screen before spending another full session repeating it.
